Slatina nad Zdobnicí (420 m), founded in 1260 by Heřman of Drnholec, is one of the natural gateways to the Orlické Mountains. Its landmark and also a historical monument is the Baroque church dedicated to the Transfiguration which holds the oldest witness of days gone by, a large bell from 1523. The river Zdobnice which passes through the village, flows through wooded regions where it creates lovely romantic nooks. And when you go strolling in the vicinity, do not miss the natural preserve, “Ve Slatinské stráni“ (On the Slatina Slope) and see the abounding flora. Well-marked tourist trails are used in winter for skiing. Several notable people were born in Slatina: Marie Hübnerová (1865 – 1931), actress of the Prague National Theatre, sculptor Leoš Kubíček ( 1887 – 1974) and his brother J. Kubíček. In the local art gallery you can see paintings by M. Holý, J. Trampota, V. Sedláček and other masters who found plenty of inspiration in the region. There is an active social, cultural and sports life in the village, with a number of societies, including the Amateur Theatre Association. And the patron of the village - a water nymph, as lovely as a large white water lily. If you do not chance to detect her at the pool just below the weir on the Zdobnice, you are sure to see her at a theatre performance. You are more than welcome.slatina
